How-To: Treat a Sunburn

Earlier I posted about how I got the worst sunburn on my face.. so first and foremost, DO NOT FORGET SUNSCREEN!! Ah, I clearly learned that the hard way. Obviously, this wasn’t my first sunburn on face, but it was definitely one of my worsts.

Usually, my face will peel (like the majority of peoples sunburns). I’m pretty sure  most will agree that trying to wear makeup whith a peeling face is absolutely disgusting! I was able to save my skin and although it did peel a little bit, I learned a trick that seriously was AMAZING on skin.

I didn’t even have to go buy any new products because I already had these on hand, which was AWESOME! And the good thing is, you can get both of these from your local drugstore, and they both are under 5 bucks. So you don’t even have to go get any crazy expensive beauty product.

Here’s what I did:

  1. Wash my face with my regular face wash (regular cleanser with no beads or anything)
  2. Put Banana Boat’s After Sun Aloe Lotion all over face. Apply it thick like if it was a mask. Leave it on for about 10 minutes.
  3. After 10 minutes or so, just rub whatever of it u can then rinse it off.
  4. Use St. Ives Apricot Scrub and gently exfoliate your face.
  5. Pat Dry…and you’re done!

You don’t have to use these exact products. The first time I did this I used Say Yes to Carrots Moisturizer, and a Laura Mercier face polish. Which they both worked awesome, but they are kind of pricey. Plus, I figured the after sun lotion would work a lot better since it has aloe, and is made for sunburns. Whichever you use, just make sure its a very moisturizing lotion (and unscented obviously). Same with the exfoliate, any will work.

Also note, don’t be afraid  exfoliate. I know you should NEVER use just a scrub on your sunburnt/peeling skin, but the moisture mask that you apply on first is the step that is key.

If you guys try this, let me know if it works, or if you have a process of your own that works wonders too :)

Beauty Must-Have: Tinted Moisturizer

theBalm TInted Moisturizer

I have been on an ENDLESS hunt for a tinted moisturizer that feels like a “moisturizer” should, but gives me the coverage I need. I will admit now, I am a die hard, religious Benefit Cosmetics junkie. I have tried You Rebel, and You Rebel Lite numerous times — each time hoping it will do what I want it to do. Don’t get me wrong, those products give awesome coverage but they feel too thick on my face, which is definitley not what I want for the summer.

I took a pit stop into Sephora this weekend while in Vegas, and it was there that I discovered the cosmetic line theBalm. Their packaging was super cute which is what caught my eye. I saw that they had a tinted moisturizer so I gave it a shot…  Cha-Ching!!! I was in LOVE! And $5 cheaper than the You Rebel, I had to get it!

the final verdict:  After using this product for almost a week, I am more than impressed. Currently in California we are seeing temperature in the triple digits, and the last thing I want is a cakey face. theBalm Tinted Moisturizer is really light on my skin, its still covering my problem areas, and not to mention that it has SPF 15. This is ABSOLUTELY a Must-Have for summer, and so far I may keep using it year round.
